Abilene Christian University celebrated Homecoming 2003 Oct. 24-26, including several friendly competitions during the weekend: a building decorating contest, a parade float competition, and the competition for this year’s Homecoming queen.
Janelle Batiste, a senior English education major from Anchorage, Alaska was named Homecoming Queen for 2003.
Batiste has participated in Shades Step Squad, Essence of Ebony, LYNAY (a leadership program), Wildcat Kids and the ACU Orchestra. She has also played intramural basketball, softball and flag football.
Saturday's parade included a competition for best women's social club float, best men's social club float, best float from other organizations, best overall float, and best use of purple.
The women of Sigma Theta Chi won the women's social club category; the men of Gamma Sigma Phi won the men's social club category; the sophomore class won in the category of other organizations; and the men of Gamma Sigma Phi won for best overall float and for best use of purple.
Throughout the week, buildings on campus decorated for Homecoming, and were judged Friday morning.
The Hardin Administration Building won first place and Sewell won second in this year’s contest for best building decorations.
