Abilene Christian University’s annual Homecoming Parade will wind its way around campus on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 9:30 a.m., featuring floats and exhibits representing ACU organizations and groups from the Abilene community, all in keeping with this year’s “Got Purple?” Homecoming theme.
Community groups participating in the parade include the Army Reserve, Girl Scouts and Fire Station #5. All classes and all ACU men's and women's social clubs will have a float, and groups such as Hispanos Unidos, the International Students' Association, Shades Step Squad and the Big Purple Band will participate as well. The campus organizations will compete for prizes, including a cash prize of $250. Categories include Best Men’s Club, Best Women’s Club, Best Other Group and Best Use of Purple.
"Our alumni have always loved coming back to watch the floats," said Amber Peck, alumni director. "Every year the parade gets bigger and better. Our students put a lot of hard work into making the parade a family-fun event. Our alumni truly appreciate and applaud the students’ efforts."
The parade will begin in the parking lot near the Williams Performing Arts Center, go west on EN 16th, then turn north onto Campus Court and end at Oliver Jackson Blvd.
The floats will also be on display at Shotwell Stadium during the Homecoming football game at 2 p.m.
