Abilene Christian University was recently honored as one of the top 50 colleges and universities world-wide in application of technology.
The New Media Consortium, an organization dedicated to the advancement of technology in higher education, designated ACU as a New Media Center, one of only 50 such colleges and universities in the world.
"Even among a very strong field, it was quite clear that Abilene Christian University is a place where smart, creative people are devising innovative solutions to challenges we all face in teaching and learning," said Dr. Larry Johnson, the CEO and president of the NMC. "The dedication to excellence here is palpable, and students and faculty are the clear beneficiaries. This recognition is well deserved."
Other members of the New Media Consortium include MIT, Princeton, UCLA, and NYU, as well as an increasing number of museums, including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. The NMC not only recognizes technological excellence, but also facilitates its advancement by placing itself and its constituent members upon the cutting edge of new media technological research.
Doug Darby, multimedia training coordinator in the Adams Center for Teaching Excellence, represented ACU this summer at the NMC conference at Virginia Tech.
"The conference focuses on partnership, on the creative dynamic among faculty, administrators, technicians, and industry," Darby said. "I hope ACU will be a beacon that spreads technological development even to the local level—the people of our community."
