Internationally acclaimed pianist to visit ACU

For immediate release
Sept. 2, 2003

Abilene Christian University's Music Department will welcome world-renowned pianist Nelita True for a performance in the Recital Hall of the Williams Performing Arts Center on the ACU campus Nov. 7 at 8 p.m., as well as a workshop and master class to be presented the following day.

The recital will be performed on ACU's new Hamburg Steinway grand piano with a reception to follow sponsored by the Abilene Music Teachers Association.

With acclamations from publications including The Boston Globe and The Washington Post, honors from the Music Teachers' National Association and worldwide performances under her belt, True is considered an international icon in the world of piano.  She debuted her talent at age 17 with the Chicago Symphony in Orchestra Hall and with the Juilliard Orchestra in Avery Fisher Hall in New York.  True is currently a professor of piano at the Eastman School of Music where she served as chair of the piano department for 14 years.

Along with a performance, True will present two workshops for piano teachers on Nov. 8 from 9-10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and two master classes for local and out-of-town piano students from 2-4 p.m. and 4:30-6:30 p.m.

Tickets will be available beginning the first week of September.  For ticket information and reservations, contact Dr. Gustavo Tolosa at 325-674-2314 or
