ACU employees to be honored as ITEC outstanding alumni

For immediate release
Oct. 17, 2002

Abilene Christian University's Department of Industrial Technology will present its annual outstanding alumni awards at this year's Homecoming celebration to ACU employees Phil Vardiman and Brad Bennett at a reception on Oct. 19 at 8 a.m. in the Living Room of the McGlothlin Campus Center.

The awards, presented to one recent graduate and one who received their degree fifteen years ago or more, honor graduates of the department for their achievements in the areas of Christian service and leadership. The award is based on their outstanding contributions to the church, the profession or the department.

"These alumni awards are given by the faculty and staff to people whom we feel have served either the Industrial Technology Department, the school, the profession or the church. Basically, these awards are to honor our alumni for the leadership and service they perform," said Dr. Jim Cooke, professor and department chair.

Vardiman, a graduate of 1976, is now an assistant professor in the Department of Management Sciences in ACU's College of Business Administration.

"Phil Vardiman is a great example of the variety of things industrial technology majors do and become," Cooke said.

Bennett, a graduate of 1997, now works as ACU's student and computer support specialist.

"Brad works on campus, and as the curriculum has become more reliant on computers and other technology, he has become an invaluable asset to the Industrial Technology Department and many other departments as well," Cooke said.

"This year's recipients of Industrial Technology's outstanding alumni awards prove how useful a degree in industrial technology can be," Cooke said. "Our graduates can and have gone and done a vast variety of jobs and careers, and this year's recipients really exemplify that."
