Abilene Christian University will serve as host for the annual Conference on Student Development Oct. 4-8.
The conference will focus on "embracing the tensions" that are part of a daily struggle for today's educators and will include approximately 40 student development professionals from ACU's Church of Christ sister
schools.
Jan Meyer, director of student leadership development for ACU,
describes the conference as having four main goals: spiritual challenge,
enhancing skills for professionals, building community and providing rest
for the weary.
The conference sessions will discuss how student development
professionals can serve as mediators and servants in a profession rife
with diversity and conflict, while integrating a call to faith and integrity,
Meyer said.
However, leaders of the conference are hoping to provide more than just
valuable information. As well as informative seminars, the conference will
include a tour of some of West Texas' unique attractions, including Buffalo
Gap, Dyess Air Force Base and the Paramount Theatre.
"Our excursions into the West Texas culture will highlight ACU's flavor to
our visitors," Meyer said.
