For immediate release
Sept. 26, 2002 Abilene Christian University students, faculty and staff will be participating in the American Heart Association 5-Mile Walk and Second Annual University Challenge Oct. 5 as a finale to ACU's annual Wellness Week.
The University Challenge provides Abilene's three main universities with an opportunity to foster community service, said Sharon Earnest, regional director of the American Heart Association.
Walkers will begin at the Wylie Baptist Church parking lot at 8:30 a.m. and will walk five miles through Fairway Oaks.
ACU participants are encouraged to wear purple to the walk, and those not able to walk that day are encouraged to sponsor a walker for $25 or more, said Dr. Nicki Rippee, professor and chair of exercise science and health.
Registration for the walk will take place at the McGlothlin Campus Center ticket windows from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. beginning Friday, Sept. 27, and continuing through the week of Sept. 30-Oct. 4.
Cash or pledges may be turned in early at the Campus Center ticket windows or Oct. 5 at the walk. Walkers may also turn in cash or pledges to the ticket center windows during the week after the walk.
