Abilene Christian University interior design students took first place and an honorable mention in the 2002 International Design Guild competition.
Redi Karameto, junior interior design major from Reklaw, won first place out of the nearly 1,000 entries in the broadloom carpet design category of the International Design Guild competition. Ashley Read, senior interior design major from Brandon, Miss., received an honorable mention in the same category. First place included a $2500 prize and honorable mention included a $100 prize.
The competition consisted of two categories: rug design and broadloom carpet. Entrants were required to be student members of the American Society of Interior Designers and submitted entries in March. Results were announced this week.
Some of the winning entries will be published in the professional magazine of ASID in the fall, said Kitty Wasemiller, associate professor of family and consumer sciences.
This was the first time for ACU students to enter the contest.
