Two major workshops this summer will prepare ministry and church leaders for their work with children's education and older adult education.
Summer Workshop
Just five months after Lectureship participants studied "Recovering Spirituality" ACU's summer workshop for Bible teachers will provide participants with the chance to learn about "Recovering Spirituality in Children" at the 2002 Summer Workshop, formerly known as Bible Teachers' Workshop, July 25-27.
The theme from Lectureship will be carried through to focus on the importance of spiritual development in children.
"By emphasizing the place of children in the congregation's spiritual life as a whole, some new directions can be charted for understanding educational practices," said Mark Love, director of church relations. "We're trying to get beyond a primarily educational model of faith formation, to a spiritual formation model."
The Summer Workshop will primarily feature classes on children's spiritual formation, with a few that deal with adult spiritual formation.
Speakers include Scott Sager from Preston Road Church of Christ in Dallas; Dana Hood from ACU; and Charles Smith from Shiloh Road Church of Christ in Tyler.
The registration fee for Summer Workshop is $20 per person and payable upon arrival. Registration will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 25, in the McGlothlin Campus Center. There is no advance registration.
Housing is available on a first-come, first-served basis, and requests must be submitted in writing after June 1. For more information about Summer Workshop, call 915-674-3750 or visit www.acu.edu/events/btw/home.html.
Older Adult Ministry Conference
The second annual Older Adult Ministry Conference will feature presentations and discussion times about church ministry to older adults July 22-24.
Church leaders who have developed successful older adult ministries will make presentations, followed by discussion periods. Featured presenters will include Jim Hughes from Skillman Avenue Church of Christ in Dallas; Jamie Knapp from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, Okla.; Joe McKissick from ACU; Charlie Pruett from ACU; Bill Starcher from Broadway Church of Christ in Lubbock; and Chris Bowers from Northside Church of Christ in San Antonio.
