Connie Neal to speak about Harry Potter at ACU Summer Workshop

For immediate release
July 8, 2002

Connie Neal, a nationally-known author and speaker, will address the topic of Christians and Harry Potter during ACU's Summer Workshop, July 25-27.

Neal, author of "What's a Christian to Do With Harry Potter?," will present a class of the same title at ACU's Summer Workshop at 4:30 p.m. July 26 in Cullen Auditorium.

Neal's book discusses biblical lessons found in the Harry Potter books and advises parents on how to read and discuss the Harry Potter series with their children, while also supporting Christians who choose not to read the books, according to the Connie Neal Web site. Neal and her book have been featured in media around the nation including Christianity Today, Publisher's Weekly, Today's Christian Woman and PBS.

"Few of our children are unaware of the imaginative world created by the Harry Potter books," said Dr. Mark Love, director of ministry events at ACU.

"However, thoughtful Christian parents are divided over whether or not the world of Harry Potter is compatible with a Christian point of view. We wanted someone to help us think about the Harry Potter phenomenon from a Christian perspective. Connie Neal brings an informed and balanced perspective to her presentations on the Harry Potter books."
