Abilene's community fireworks show celebrating the July 4th Independence Day holiday will take place at Crutcher Scott Field on the northeast corner of the Abilene Christian University campus.
Gates to the grandstand will open at 6:30 p.m., entertainment begins at 7:45 p.m., and the fireworks show, sponsored by Musgrave Enterprises, starts at approximately 9:30 p.m. There will be no admission charge for the evening's activities.
Guest seating is available in the grandstand free of charge at Crutcher Scott Field, and parking will be available in any designated ACU parking lot and in the vacant lots across Ambler Ave.
Gates and concession stands open at 6:30 p.m., and live entertainment starts at 7:45 p.m. The local bands Keywest and the Texas Fiddlers will perform. At approximately 9:10 p.m., the Dyess Air Force Base Honor Guard will present the U.S. flag, and Master Sergeant John Reinoehl will sing the National Anthem.
The fireworks show is scheduled to start at 9:30 p.m. Radio station KORQ 96.1 FM will broadcast the entire evening program from Crutcher Scott Field. KTAB-TV will broadcast the evening's activities beginning at 8 p.m. Radio stations KACU 89.7 FM, KIDY 107 FM, KEAN 105 FM, KULL 92 FM, KSLI 1280 AM, The Ranch 1470 AM, and KWKC 1340 AM will broadcast patriotic music during the fireworks display beginning at 9:30 p.m.
The Abilene Police Department, Abilene Fire Department and numerous community volunteers will assist in maintaining a pleasant evening for all who attend the celebration. Notes important to the public attending the fireworks show and celebration include:
- Parking will be available across Ambler Avenue north of Crutcher Scott Field. ACU parking lots will be available to the public. No parking on the sides of Judge Ely or Ambler Ave. will be permitted. Traffic and pedestrian flow will be enforced by the Abilene Police Department and the ACU Police Department.
- The possession and use of fireworks inside the city limits is illegal. Such items will be confiscated.
- Alcoholic beverages are not permitted on the ACU campus.
- The ACU campus is a smoke-free environment.
- All backpacks and coolers are subject to search by police while in Crutcher Scott Field.
