For Immediate Release
Nov. 8, 1999

Dr. Fred Bailey, chair of the Department of History, will speak in Abilene Christian University's Chapel assembly Nov. 11 for Veterans Day.

Bailey's speech, "Peace is Better" will focus on appreciation for the young men who sacrificed their lives so Americans could have their freedom.

"We're here because some people were willing to do what was necessary to pay the cost for our freedom," Bailey said. "We have the privilege to be where we are today because young people were willing to suffer."

Bailey, who is very passionate about Veterans Day, has been at ACU since 1984 and has a BA from Harding University and the MA and Ph.D from the University of Tennessee. He has written extensively on subjects relating to American intellectual history with an emphasis on the American South.

Chapel is conducted at 11 a.m. in Moody Coliseum on the ACU campus
