WACU raises more than $5,000 for scholarships
For Immediate Release
September 24, 1999
The Women for Abilene Christian University raised more
than $5,000 in the "Walk with Money" fund raising event
Sept. 18.
Students and many other friends of ACU who participated
in the event collected donations and joined Dr. Royce Money,
ACU president, and his wife Pam, for their walk around
campus.
The money raised goes to scholarships for ACU students.
According to Ann Young, program chair for the national
committee of WACU, each year WACU gives 10 scholarships to
students.
Scholarships are awarded to students majoring in biblical
studies because they don't qualify for the Texas
Equalization Grant and to women from various departments on
campus.
The money raised from Saturday's event contributes to the
WACU Endowed Fund. The goal for the fund is $1 million,
Young said.
This is the ninth year the Money's have walked with WACU.
The event began in 1991 when Dr. Money took office. Pam
Money currently serves as the national board president for
WACU.
