ACU's Freshman Follies lands this weekend
For Immediate Release
September 20, 1999
The journey is just beginning for Abilene Christian
University freshmen performing in Freshman Follies Sept.
24-25.
More than 700 freshmen will gather in ACU's Cullen
Auditorium to entertain the audience about their new-found
college life. Students participate in solo, small group and
large chorus acts throughout the show.
Cynthia Cook, dean of students, said Follies is one of
the first initial opportunities for new students to get
involved with fellow freshmen to produce and participate in
a full musical production.
"The dorm acts help the students to get to know other
people on their floor and have fun," Cook said. "(This
production) provides enjoyment for family and friends."
Freshman Follies' theme is "The Journey Begins: Episode
99." The stage is constructed to look like a spacecraft has
landed in Cullen Auditorium.
According to Cook, the `acting troup' will carry the
theme throughout the show.
Tickets are $5 and are available by calling 674-2648.
Showtimes are Friday at 8 and 10 p.m. and Saturday at 1, 3
and 5 p.m.
Freshman Follies is a part of Fall Preview Weekend where
high school students and prospective students and their
parents visit ACU.
"This is a chance for high school students to see
first-year students come together and pull off a performance
as important as Follies in only five weeks," Cook said.
"It's a part of what makes ACU different."
