Abilene Christian University will award Dr. William McMinn of Houston an honorary doctorate Friday at commencement ceremonies
McMinn led various companies for a number of years, including the chemical division of FMC, a Fortune 500 company. Currently, he is a member of C Sterling Group, an investment company.
"The trustees selected McMinn to receive an honorary doctorate because they were impressed by a number of factors including his generous support of various local charities, commitment to help higher education and help to the community by his service on various committees" said Dr. William Teague, chancellor and past president of ACU.
"He has made it possible for a great many young people to attend ACU through scholarship donations, many of which are not in his name," Teague said.
McMinn will give the charge to the graduating students and receive an honorary doctorate from ACU's Board of Trustees.
"He will have something to say that's important for students to learn or be refreshed in," Teague said.
Commencement will take place at 7:30 p.m. in Moody Coliseum Friday, Dec. 14.
