Hundreds of thousands of copies of Jabez by Thom Lemmons, director of the ACU Press at Abilene Christian University, hit store shelves across the nation Nov. 13.
Lemmons' book traces the tale of Jabez of the Bible who came to national attention through the popular book, The Prayer of Jabez.
Jabez tells a fictional story of Jabez's life based on the few passages in the Bible that mention Jabez.
Waterbrook press, a division of Random House, published Lemmons' book and currently features it on its Web site (www.randomhouse.com/waterbrook/) under "New and Noteworthy." The initial press run for Lemmons' book was 340,000, nearly a third of which was ordered by Wal-Mart stores.
Lemmons said the book is being carried at various Wal-Mart stores, Sam's Wholesale stores and Barnes & Noble locations across the nation. The book can be found at many locations in Abilene, including the ACU Campus Store, Bible Book Store, Abilene Educational Supply and Hastings.
Lemmons has written other biblical fiction novels, including the Daughters of Faith Series Daughter of Jerusalem, Woman of Means, Mother of Faith and Daniel: The Man Who Saw Tomorrow, Jeremiah: He Who Wept, and Once Upon a Cross.
