ACU's Homecoming musical Oliver! to hit the Abilene stage

The 2001 Abilene Christian University Homecoming musical is the award-winning work Oliver!, featuring the music and lyrics of Lionel Bart, and based on the novel by Charles Dickens.
The audience will enjoy favorite songs such as "Food, Glorious Food," "I'd Do Anything," "Consider Yourself," "As Long As He Needs Me," "Who Will Buy," "Reviewing the Situation" and many more.
The dynamic characters and popular songs of Oliver! will certainly keep the audience entertained. Orphan boy Oliver, played by Veronica Matta, senior theatre major, escapes a dismal workhouse with the help of the prostitute Nancy, played by Sarah Singleton, senior theater and English major. While on the streets of London, Oliver finds companionship in The Artful Dodger, played by junior theatre major Sean Martin. The cast of Oliver! also includes many local children.
Steven Pounders, interim chair of the Department of Theatre, directs the musical. Natalie Steel serves as conductor, and Jeannette Lipford is the vocal director. Oliver! will feature choreography by Teri Wilkerson, scenic design by Gary Varner, and costume design by Sandy Freeman.
Performances are at the Abilene Civic Center at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 19 and 20, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21. Tickets range from $5 to $15. For tickets, call the ACU Theatre box office at 915-674-ARTS.
