ACU students will scatter across town this weekend to serve God and the Abilene community. Oct. 13 is Service Saturday, a day for students to participate in various service projects ranging from manual labor to visiting with the elderly.

Service Saturday is sponsored by S.A.L.T., ACU's Service Action Leadership Team, which plans all service activities involving ACU students.

"Service Saturday is an opportunity for students to gather together and meet people while serving the community," said Kristy Perdue, S.A.L.T. member. "We are excited to see how God will use Service Saturday to further His kingdom."

The activities planned for this Saturday include:

  • Healing Hands of Abilene -- sort medical supplies to go to medical missionaries, 9 a.m.
  • Abilene Adult Day Care -- sort through things for a garage sale, 1:30-4:30 p.m.
  • Community Partners -- organize clothes, 9 a.m.-noon
  • American Heart Walk -- help with promotion, etc., 8:30 a.m.
  • Abilene State School -- bowl with students, 9 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m.
  • Mesa Springs Retirement Center -- visit and sing with residents, 9-11:30 a.m.
  • Day Nursery -- play with and read to children

Anyone interested in participating can sign up in the Campus Center ticket windows from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, or visit the Volunteer and Service-Learning Center.

"It really does make a difference," Perdue said.
