ACU schedules Wednesday press conference

For immediate release
Oct. 10, 2001

Abilene Christian University has tentatively scheduled a press conference for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Mabee Library Auditorium to discuss a suspicious international letter that was received and opened Tuesday in the Registrar's Office.

The auditorium is located in the south end of the library, which is just northeast of the Hardin Administration Building. The administration building was temporarily closed Tuesday upon the recommendation by the FBI.

The 10- to12-page letter was described by Jimmy Ellison, director of the ACU Police Department, as full of random language, neatly prepared but almost indecipherable in content. Although the word anthrax was not used in the letter, certain abbreviations could be construed as referring to the bacteria.

If there is a change in the time of the press conference, the media will be notified.
