Three hundred and thirty-seven Abilene Christian University employees donated $43,147 to help the United Way of Abilene with its annual community-wide campaign to raise $2.2 million.
ACU, one of the city's largest employers, has participated for many years with United Way's campaign, said Tim Johnston, ACU's United Way campaign coordinator and director of admissions.
Johnston said ACU's goal of $42,000 was a generous one, but one he believed could be met.
"If we are going to live out our mission of Christian service and leadership, we should start in our own backyard," Johnston said. "We want to be a good neighbor."
About 300 businesses are contributing to the organizations goal of $2.2 million.
"I have seen Abilene really pull together, and I realized how generous and committed organizations in Abilene are to United Way," Johnston said. "It is fun to be part of that."
