ACU student continues trend, wins statewide fiction writing award

An ACU student won first place in a statewide fiction writing contest, becoming the second ACU student to win the award in the past three years..

Jason Harper, an English major who graduated in May, won the first place Charles Oliver Memorial Award in Fiction in a contest sponsored by the Texas Association of Creative Writing Teachers.

Jason's story, "La Carta," was written in Al Haley's English 322 Fiction Workshop last fall.

Jason is entering the ACU English master's degree program this fall. Jason is the son of Dr. Preston Harper , professor of English, and Marsha Harper, professor of library science and director of the Brown Library.

ACU students have won the first place award in this contest in two of the last three years.
