NASA engineer to speak at Honors Program Spring Banquet
For Immediate Release March 29, 2001 For more information contact: The Abilene Christian University Honors Program Spring Banquet will feature a special guest from NASA on April 9. Mark Schmalz of the NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston will speak to students and faculty in the Honors Program at the annual dinner. Schmalz is a senior systems engineer for NASA and is project manager for the Space-to-Space Communications System. "Space travel hasn't lost its glamour," said Dr. Chris Willerton, professor of English and director of the Honors Progam. "Look at all the folks who crowded around Dyess a few weeks ago for a look at the space shuttle. We bring in NASA speakers every few years because their slides are fascinating to the whole range of honors students and teachers. The future engineers, the poets, the pre-meds, the accountants--everybody gets excited. For the space of half an hour, we all want to be astronauts." For the banquet, Schmalz will present a slide show on various NASA projects. The banquet is held annually for Honors Program students and teachers and their guests and will take place in the Hilton Room of the McGlothlin Campus Center at 6 p.m. -30- Archived News Releases - Current ACU News and Events
