Senior Horizons retreat to offer education, recreation

A Senior Horizons retreat is scheduled for May 20-24 at Abilene Christian University, offering older adults opportunities to expand their minds with large doses of recreation.
The retreat is an opportunity for people over the age of 55 to come together for fellowship, education and entertainment. The retreat is co-sponsored by Professional Continuing Education and the Pruett Gerontology Center.
Keynote speakers will focus their lessons on this years theme, "Love - a Fruit of the Spirit."
Speakers for the retreat include John Risse, pulpit minister at Southern Hills Church of Christ; Wendell Broom, assistant professor emeritus of missions; and ACU president Royce Money.
Seminar topics include women in Christian service, the restoration movement, coming out of retirement for the Lord and peacemakeing. Class topics include computer training, Word World II and art.
Field trips will be taken to a World World II museum, antique shopping and ACU's new Zoe Conference Center.
Entertainment during Senior Horizons will include vocal quartets, choruses and guitar medleys. A Senior Horizons talent show, Spades and "42" tournament also will be a part of the weekend.
On-campus housing at University Park Apartments is available. Each apartment is equipped with a kitchen, a phone, two private rooms with one twin bed in each and two private baths. Fresh linens will be provided. Pillows and television will not be available.
Off-campus lodging is available at the Abilene LaQuinta Inn, located just minutes from the ACU campus. To make a reservation, call 915-676-1676 and ask for a Senior Horizons room.
Senior Horizons tuition is $225 per person for those staying on-campus. Private rooms can be rented for an added charge of $25. The cost is $180 per person for those lodging off campus. Both costs cover the cost of classes, meal and events. RV hook-ups are available with advanced notice for an addition charge of $10 per day.
