Youth and Family Ministry Conference schedule to offer unique insights through full slate of speakers

Abilene Christian University's 17th annual Conference on Youth and Family Ministry starts Thursday, Feb. 22, and continues through Friday, Feb. 23, in Hart Auditorium in the Biblical Studies Building on the ACU campus.

The conference will study five areas where ministers influence adolescents to discover how to be more effective. Those five areas are worship, evangelism, fellowship, spiritual formation and ministry. The data presented is current nationwide research based on teen-agers within the Church of Christ.

The schedule includes:

Thursday, Feb. 22

  • 9-9:30 a.m. - Welcome and Worship, Adam Looney
  • 9:30-10:15 a.m. - A Look at Stats, Dr. Carley Dodd and Robert Oglesby
  • 10:15-10:30 a.m. - Break
  • 10:30-11:30 a.m. - The Purpose of Worship, Chris Seidman
  • 11:40 a.m.-1:30 p.m. - lunch on your own
  • 1:30-2:30 p.m. - Fellowship: Relation or Recreation, Rick Atchley
  • 2:30-3:15 p.m. - Look at the Stats, Dr. Carley Dodd and Robert Oglesby
  • 3:15-3:30 p.m. - Break
  • 3:30-4:15 p.m. - Evangelism: Connecting Culture to Our Christianity, Chris Seidman
  • 4:15-4:40 p.m. - Question Forum
  • 4:45-5 p.m. - Worship, Adam Looney

Friday, Feb. 23

  • 8:45-9 a.m. - Worship, Adam Looney
  • 9-10 a.m. - Discipleship: Shaped by the Cross, Rick Atchley
  • 10-10:15 a.m. - Break
  • 10:15-11:15 a.m. - Ministry on Purpose, David Fraze
  • 11:15-11:45 a.m. - A Final Word, Robert Oglesby

  • Dr. Carley Dodd, ACU professor of communication
  • Robert Oglesby, ACU instructor of undergraduate Bible and ministry
  • Rick Atchley, pulpit minister at Richland Hills Church of Christ in North Richland Hills
  • David Fraze, youth minister at Green Lawn Church of Christ in Lubbock

The cost of the conference is $135 per person and that includes a notebook containing the data presented. Registration will take place in the McGlothlin Campus Center on the ACU campus Wednesday, Feb. 21, from 2-4 p.m. and Thursday, Feb. 22, in the Rotunda on the first floor of the Biblical Studies Building from 8-9 a.m.
