Scholarship 2001 to take place at ACU

Abilene Christian University will serve as host for the annual Scholarship 2001 on February 24.
This event is sponsored by The Hispanic Leadership Council of Abilene, The Texas Association of Hispanic School Administrators and the League of United Latin American Citizens. It targets Abilene area high school juniors and seniors, as well as their parents.
Last year, approximately 200 attended; this year, more than 250 are expected to attend the program.
The program will include Dr. Michael Moehler, superintendent of the Abilene Indpendent School District, speaking on "The Cultural Assets That Hispanics Bring to the Classroom."
Tim Johnston, ACU director of admissions, will speak about "How to Apply to College," and Gary West, ACU director of student financial services will speak about "Financing Your Education."
Other speakers will include Dr. Rogelio Lopez del Bosque, marketing coordinator for the Division of Professional Development for Industrial Development Research Association in San Antonio; Renato de los Santos, LULAC National Educational Service Center in Dallas; Ernesto Segura, assistant principal at Abilene High School; and ACU's student organization Hispanos Unidos.
Several other colleges/universities and organizations have confirmed their attendance as exhibitors including Hardin-Simmons University, McMurry University, Texas Tech University, Cisco Junior College, Tarleton State University, Texas State Technical College, Hendrick Health System, Abilene Intercollegiate School of Nursing and the United States Air Force.
In addition, representatives from the Hispanic Leadership Council, LULAC, TAHSA and the Abilene Hispanic Seniors Recognition Dinner Committee will be available to meet the students and answer questions.
The coordinating committee, chaired by Bob Gomez, student multicultural enrichment coordinator, includes Billy Enriquez, Mary Helen Munoz, Ernesto Segura, Martin Garcia, Major Mike Cook, Angie Rodriguez, Joel Loya, Mary Reyes, Dian Ruud, Janie Perez and Ovelia Campos.
