Al and Linda Campell will be honored in Abilene Christian University's daily Chapel service Friday, Feb. 16, as ACU's 2001 Parents of the Year. Chapel will start at 11 a.m. in Moody Coliseum.
The Campbells, who recently moved to Round Rock, Texas, from Thousand Oaks, Calif., are the parents of ACU senior Ryan Campell.
Every year, ACU students are asked to nominate their parents for the Parents of the Year award with a written essay concerning why their parents should be Parents of the Year. Based on Ryan's essay, his parents were chosen.
"My parents have been married for 34 years, and I cannot comprehend going through life without their love and all that they have given to me - spiritually, emotionally and physically," Ryan said in his essay. "Upon thinking of who should receive this award, I cannot think of better parents, better examples and better friends to give this to."
Al is retired from Northrop-Grumman, and Linda is a retired teacher. Both of Ryan's brothers, Darin and Brent, graduated from Pepperdine University and did graduate work at ACU. Darin now lives in Houston, and Brent lives in Austin.
A reception to honor the Campbells will take place immediately following Chapel in the lower rotunda of Chapel on the Hill in ACU's biblical studies building.
