
ACU Optimist editor wins print journalism award
For Immediate Release Nov. 30, 2000 Contact: Tom Craig, 674-2692 Jessica Smith, junior journalism major from Tyler and Optimist editor, received the John Chamberlain Award for Excellence in Print Journalism for her work as a summer intern at the Institute on Political Journalism. The John Chamberlain award is awarded by The Fund for American Studies' Institute on Political Journalism and recognizes two outstanding students - one in print and one in broadcast - who participated in the program. Smith was one of 70 students who participated in the program this summer. As part of the program, Smith interned at The Washington Times, enrolled in six hours of classes at Georgetown University and participated in seminars and programs. Smith was selected as the outstanding print journalist because she stood out in every area of the program she participated in, said Bill Keyes, Institute on Political Journalism director. Keyes also acknowledged ACU's Journalism and Mass Communication department and faculty for preparing its students to be the best and brightest interns and employees, Smith said. -30- Archived News Releases - Current ACU News and Events
