Tom Craig, Director of Media and Community Relations
Dr. Gary McCaleb, executive director of the Center for Building Community and vice president of Abilene Christian University, has released a book titled Community: The "Other" Side of Self.
The hardback book is a collection of history's most insightful quotes about community from men and women like William Shakespeare, Martin Luther King Jr., Anne Frank and Aristotle.
McCaleb provides these quotes to be helpful, stimulating and useful on the journey to build community. "Shifting the focus away from self and toward others is essential to the successful building of community," McCaleb said in his introduction.
Each quote is given its own page, free from other quotes or commentary, to allow readers space for their own reflection.
McCaleb will be signing books Tuesday, July 18 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Abilene Bookstore at 174 Cypress St.
The books are priced at $8.95 and will be sold at the Abilene Bookstore. Call (toll free) 877-816-4455 to find a location near you.
McCaleb also serves as a professor of management at ACU. He served as mayor of the city of Abilene for nine years and as a council member for five years.
He earned his bachelor's degrees from ACU and holds an MBA and Ph.D from Texas A&M Univeristy.
McCaleb and his wife have a daughter and son and four grandchildren.
