Two Abilene Christian University seniors received top awards at ACU's Senior Dinner May 5.

Travis Speck, secondary education major from Nashville, Tenn., was named Mr. ACU by popular vote by the student body for exemplifying outstanding scholarship, character and spiritual leadership. Kelly Shunk, accounting major from Abilene, was named Miss ACU for the portraying the same qualities.

The naming of Speck and Shunk as Mr. and Miss ACU is ironic in a sense … the two are planning to marry to this summer.

While at ACU Speck has served as president of Gamma Sigma Phi men's social club. He was named to the Dean's Honor Roll five semesters. Last summer he served as worship leader for ACU's Leadership Camps and was the Sing Song director for his junior class and the men of Gamma Sigma Phi.

Shunk served as president of Sigma Theta Chi women's social club. She also served on the Welcome Week Steering Committee for two years and is listed in Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. She has been named to the Dean's Honor Roll and also received ACU's Community Servant award. Shunk has been serving as the vice president of the Business Administration Council, she is a member of the W Club and a member of the LYNAY group, a leadership/service program sponsored by ACU's Center for Building Community.
