ACU students perform well in creative writing competition

Abilene Christian University students competed in the Conference on Christianity and Literature Student Creative Writing Contest.

Eight ACU students entered and submitted a total of 11 pieces in the categories of fiction and poetry. Six ACU students placed, making ACU the school with the most wins. ACU also captured first place in fiction for the second year in a row.

ACU's winners are:

  • First place fiction - Lisa Rodriguez Castello, senior from Abilene, "Shattered Clay"
  • Third place fiction - Travis Hutchinson, senior from Littleton, Colo., "Catching the Swell"
  • Honorable mention fiction - Patrick Buhrmann, sophomore from Abilene, "Bleeding Hands"
  • Honorable mention fiction - Angie Brooks, junior from The Woodlands, "Les Fleurs"
  • Second place poetry - Derek Parsons, senior from Jenks, Okla., "Dignity"
  • Third place poetry - Daniel John DeMarc Jr., junior from Abilene, "The Alcove"
