ACU students attend TAFCS meeting

Several Abilene Christian University professors including Dr. Marianna Rasco, chair of the deptartment of family and consumer sciences, and Patricia Varner, assistant professor deptartment of family and consumer sciences, and 11 students attended the 82nd annual Texas Association of Family and Consumer Sciences Meeting in Arlington.

The "Millennium Meeting", which 180 professionals and pre-professionals attended, was focused on "Investing Families: Utilizing Emerging Technology".

Gail Balliew, vocational home economics education teacher from Eula and a 1996 ACU graduate, received the TAFCS Teacher of the Year award for the state of Texas.

Three outgoing ACU students served as state officers: Norma Toledo, senior general family and consumer science major from San Antonio; Kristy Covert, junior food, nutirition and dietetics major from Houston; and Tara Willbanks, junior fashion merchandising major from Colleyville.

The following students will serve as TAFCS student section officers for the 2000-2001 school year: Heather Martin, vocational home economics major from Friona, will serve as treasurer; Susan Lakey, human development and family studies major from Sherman, will serve as vice chairman of communications; and Kristy Covert, will again serve as Nutrition Council Delegate.
