ACU students participate in Artwalk
For Immediate Release April 5, 2000 Abilene Christian University's Poetry Workshop and members of The Shinnery Review student literary magazine will be participating in a Rent-A-Poet event at the Abilene Bookstore on Thursday, April 13, from 6-8 p.m. as part of this month's Artwalk. For the price of a dollar, these "rented" student poets will write free verse based on any given topic and donate the proceeds to Abilene Adult Literacy. Al Haley, ACU writer-in-residence, oversees the Poetry Workshop and said the students have been practicing the art of spontaneous poetry to prepare for Rent-A-Poet. These poems will "contain sharp imagery, be well crafted, and finalized on a computer so you'll leave with a nice, clean copy," Haley said. "These poems could make a unique gift for a special somebody who enjoys the literary touch." In addition to the free-verse poems, spontaneous readings of classic and contemporary poetry will take place. -30- Archived News Releases - Current ACU News and Events
