Parents of the Year to be presented to ACU student body
Friday
For Immediate Release
Feb. 16, 2000
Art and Susan Green of Abilene have been name ACU Parents
of the Year. They will be introduced in Chapel at 11 a.m.
Friday, Feb. 18.
Their son Matthew, a senior biology major, nominated the
Greens. To nominate his parents, Matthew submitted an essay
about why he considered them "parents of the year." In it,
he said:
"Art, my father, has been a man of generosity for as long
as I can remember. He has always given to those who are less
fortunate and to those who need either time or money. I am
grateful for the example he has shown in the way he
continually denies himself so others can have what they
need.
"As for my mother, Susan, I have never known a more godly
woman
Every day she blesses people with the words of
wisdom that seem to continually flow from her mouth. She is
the strongest Christian I have ever known, and I have been
blessed to be her child. I have grown up seeing her
persevere through some of the toughest situations life has
to offer, and yet every time she has come out tempered and
strong.
"As a middle school student, I can remember my sister
bringing her college friends home for Sunday dinner. I was
only an eighth grader at the time, but I remember
anticipating the day when I would be a freshman at ACU and
have the opportunity to bring my friends home for Sunday
lunch."
Larry and Regina Sanders, co-presidents of the ACU
Parents' Association, will present the Greens with a
certificate during Chapel on Friday.
