ACU contest winner to receive iMac from Campus Store

Abilene Christian Univeristy student Nicole Carter, senior social work major from Raynham, Mass., will receive a new iMac from the Campus Store on Thursday, Jan. 20.

Carter's name was randomly chosen from correct entries for the Movie Madness II competition. Students entered the contest by correctly guessing titles to popular movies like "Hope Floats" and "You've Got Mail" hidden in clues in Welcome Week pictures displayed in the Bean.

As pledge mom of GATA, a woman's social club on campus, Carter got a little help with her winning entry. Carter said she and the prospective members figured out the entry together. "We went to the Bean for a get to know you time," she said. "Some of the girls called me over to encourage me to guess the movie. (They) told me it was `You've Got Mail' and after looking it over, I concluded it was."

Clues were based on the words in the movie title or the actors in the movie. The "You've Got Mail" picture featured a postal symbol for mail and a white feather from "Forest Gump" to remind people of Tom Hanks.

The girls who helped Carter guess the movie were also the ones who told her she won. She said, "When I answered (my door) they started screaming that I had won an I-Mac."

Having forgotten about her entry, Carter was initially doubtful. "At first I didn't believe them, but then they reminded me about entering the contest, and I was thrilled."

Carter, who currently doesn't own a computer, isn't quite sure what she is going to do with the new I-Mac but is thankful none the less. "I'm very excited and blessed to have won it," she said.
