According to the American Association of Colleges of Podiatric Medicine website, the requirements for application to Schools of Podiatric Medicine are very similar. A number of factors are considered including the applicant’s grade point average, letters of recommendation, extracurricular activities, personal interview, and performance on the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) or the Graduate Record Exam (GRE). Traditionally, the MCAT has been the only test required for admission, but recently, the California College of Podiatric Medicine, Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine, and Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine have begun to accept GRE scores. While ninety percent of those students accepted into one of these colleges hold a bachelor’s degree, only completion of three years of undergraduate work is required. The prerequisite courses, which must be completed, are as follows:
|General Biology with lab*||BIOL 112/114
|General Chemistry with lab||CHEM 131/133
|Organic Chemistry with lab||CHEM 223/221
|Physics with lab||PHYS 110/111
*Scholl college of Podiatric Medicine requires 12 hours of Biological Sciences
*California College of Podiatric Medicine requires 8 hours of English, and 12 hours of liberal arts courses.
It is highly recommended that your school of interest be contacted so that you may receive the newest requirements for admission into their graduate program.
