Wilbert Montgomery ('77) earned seven varsity letters at ACU in football and track and field, led the Wildcats to the NAIA Division I national championship in 1973 in football, and set collegiate records for touchdowns scored in one game (six), season (37) and career (76). He rushed for 3,047 yards, led his team to a four-year record of 33-10-1 and earned first team Associated Press all-America.
In his nine-year NFL career, Montgomery led the NFC in kickoff returns in 1977, played in the Pro Bowl twice and set Eagle season rushing records in 1978 and 1979 before leading his team to the 1980 NFC championship and the 1981 Super Bowl in New Orleans, La.
Montgomery was inducted into the ACU Sports Hall of Fame in 1989 and the Philadelphia Eagles' Hall of Fame in 1987. He received a Distinguished Alumni Citation from the ACU Alumni Association in 1979 and was elected into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1996.
Today, Montgomery is the running back coach for the St. Louis Rams. He and his family live in Missouri.
