Mr. Wendell Bedichek graduated from Abilene Christian University in 1924 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English.
An active student at ACU, Bedichek was editor of The Optimist from 1921-1924, president of the Student’s Association, president of the Press Club, a member of the James A. Harding Literary Society, a member of Band and the orchestra, a member of the Glee Club and a student manager of the Athletics Department.
Returning to ACU in 1948, Bedichek was hired as the Director of Public Relations for the university. He served as a journalism professor and was named president of the Alumni Association in 1931 and 1946. While working at ACU, he founded the Wendell H. Bedichek Journalism Award.
From 1937-1947, Bedichek was the managing editor of the Abilene Reporter-News. He also served as director of the Abilene Chamber of Commerce, vice president of the Texas State Committee for Public Education, president of the West Texas Press Association and director of the West Texas Council of Governments.
Bedichek married Ruth McCollough of Austin, Texas on November 16, 1932 and had two children: Wendell and Stella. In 1970, Bedichek was honored as the winner of the fourth Abilene Christian University alumni citation.
