Dr. Tommy J. McCord received his Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from ACU in 1954.

McCord returned to ACU in 1958 as an associate professor and became a full professor in 1964.  In 1968, he was named chairman of the chemistry department.  In 1981, he became the M.E. Pruitt Professor of Chemistry, making him the recipient of the first permanently endowed professorship at ACU.  He held that professorship until 1992.

He received the Board of Trustees Outstanding Teacher Award and in 1996, McCord retired from ACU after 38 years of service.

McCord and his wife, Mary Frances Wiseman ('66), had four children: Dana Webb ('74), Daniel ('77), Stephen ('82) and Joey ('88).
