Overton Faubus

Dr. Overton Faubus began teaching at Abilene Christian in 1952 and was appointed head of the Department of Business in 1967. He served in that position until 1980 when he was became department chair emeritus. 

In 1972, Faubus received the Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award and in 1974 was listed in Outstanding Educators of America.  The Texas A&M School of Business named him Outstanding Alumnus in Accounting in 1977.  In the spring of 1980, he was honored by former students with the designation of Overton Faubus Day and by the establishment of the Overton Faubus Endowed Professorship in business. 

Faubus served as president of the Abilene Chapter of the Texas Society of CPAs and was a committee member of the Industrial Development Board of Texas.  He also was a minister for 20 years and an elder at Hillcrest Church of Christ. 

Faubus is most widely known for his long-lasting relationships with students and his constant encouragement to succeed.
