Dr. Keith Justice came to Abilene Christian University in 1950 from Texas A & M University where he was an instructor for one year following his graduation. He received a bachelor's of science degree in Economics from Stephen F. Austin University and a bachelor's of science degree in Agriculture from Texas A & M University. He received his PhD in Soil Science from Utah State University in 1961.
Justice served as head of the Agriculture Department from 1961 to 1980. He received honors including Board of Trustees Teacher of the Year Award in 1961 and selection as Piper Professor by the Minnie Stevens Piper Foundation in 1963.
He is a member of the American Society of Agronomy and the Soil Science Soceity of America and was an active member National Association of College Teachers of Agriculture of which he served as director from 1963-65, vice president from 1965-66 and president from 1966-67.
Justice was a firm believer in hard work and in a 1965 speech entitled "The Dignity of Labor," he said, "The longer I live the more I am convinced that it is not the work that hurts us, but rather the fear of it, the fretting about it, and the frustration that is produced by the failure to do it satisfactorily. There is nothing more restful at the end of a hard day's work than the sense of accomplishment that comes from a job well done…"
He and his wife, Vera, have four sons: Johnny ('67), Jimmy ('69), David ('72) and Dale ('73).
