Juanita Avinger

Dr. Juanita Avinger joined the ACU faculty in 1967 after being active around the state as a reading consultant for school districts and publishing companies.

While at ACU she was honored by the Trustees as Outstanding Teacher of the Year in 1971, and she began the reading specialist program in 1974. Under her direction the Summer Reading Clinic, aimed at correcting reading problems of students in grades one through 12, grew past even her own high expectations.

When asked why she came to ACU and stayed for 19 years she said, “I came to ACU because I wanted to teach Christian students.” She and her husband, Herschel, retired from ACU together in 1985.
