Joyce Curtis

Dr. Joyce Curtis began her teaching career at ACU in 1959 as an assistant professor.  She later served as the director of the Women’s Physical Education Activities Program and was responsible for bringing women's athletics to ACU. 

Curtis coached ACU women's volleyball from its beginning in 1971 with a nine-year record of 144-115-2.  Her teams qualified for the state tournament the last four years and regional the last three years.  She also coached ACU women's basketball from 1971-75. 

In 1980, Dr. Curtis resigned as the volleyball coach and coordinator of women's athletics and returned to full-time teaching as professor in the university’s Department of Exercise Science and Health.  Dr. Curtis was inducted into the ACU Sports Hall of Fame in 2003.  She retired from ACU in 2004.
