J.E. McKinzie came to Abilene in 1923 to serve as cafeteria manager for Abilene Christian, a position he held until 1937.
McKinzie was a member of the Board of Trustees at Abilene Christian from 1919-37. He served as vice president of the board and from 1933-36 served as board chairman. McKinzie was one of four board members who assisted in moving the school to its present site in 1929 from it’s original campus downtown.
McKinzie Hall, originally a women’s residence hall, opened in 1947. Mr. and Mrs. J.E. McKinzie had five children – Fred ('33), John ('34), Maureen Thomas ('43), Brian ('49) and Louise Sharp ('54).
