Dr. Jack Boyd came to ACU in 1968 after six years of high school and junior high choral direction in Kentucky, and he was a full-time professor until 1996 when he partially retired but continued teaching half-time.
During his time at ACU, Dr. Boyd taught choral classes as well as Music Literature and Church Music. He is the director of the ACU Alumni Chorus. He has lectured on religious and congregational music in sixteen states and has published numerous books and articles on religion and religious music.
From 1987-1992, Dr. Boyd published a series of short stories in the Abilene-Reporter News regarding the village of Cedar Gap. Three years of the stories were collected and published by Texas Tech University Press. Several of the stories were gathered into the musical Cedar Gap Homecoming which, with music by Ed George, was produced at ACU in 1999. Cedar Gap Homecoming was followed by The Kids of Cedar Gap in 2001 and Christmas at Cedar Gap in 2002.
Boyd is currently the Minister of Music at Minter Lane Church of Christ in Abilene and lives with his wife, Joann, on five acres in Cedar Gap, Texas.
