Ed George

Dr. Ed George first came to Abilene Christian as a student in 1957 and received a bachelor's and master's degree in music education from ACU.

George joined the ACU music faculty in 1969 and in 1990 became the head of the department of music.

As director of ACU's orchestra for several years, George composed musical pieces including "The Call of Moses" and "Procession of the Celebrants." The latter was played as the recessional following the official inaugural ceremony of Dr. William J. Teague as president of ACU.

In the 1970s, George directed Hilltoppers, a group of ACU students selected to tour overseas by the United Service Organization (USO) and the United States Department of Defense. The musical group was one of ten chosen nationally.  They toured in Europe, the Caribbean islands, the Pacific islands, the Mediterranean and the Far East. George served as orchestra conductor for ACU's Homecoming musicals for over 20 years.

As part of ACU's Centennial year, George is working with Jack Boyd on the musical comedy "Abilene 1906" to be performed at the Paramount Theatre Sept. 8-9.

George and his wife, Kathryn ('73), have three children – Melinda Wilson ('84), Glenna Miranda ('86) and Greg ('90).
