Ed Brown

Dr. Edward Brown established ACU’s debate team, led the Department of Communication and served as vice president for academic affairs.

He spent several years working with cross-cultural communication as a missionary to Japan from 1949-54. Brown came to ACU in 1954 as a graduate assistant and became a member of the faculty in 1955. In 1954 Brown established the ACU debate team which he coached for 22 years. He was recognized as Teacher of the Year in 1966. From 1976-1982 he served as vice-president for academic affairs and became chair of the Department of Communication in 1982.

In 1992 the Brown Forensic Endowment was established to help fund the forensics program and to provide scholarships for students in the Department of Communications.

He returned to teaching in 1987 and after 38 years of teaching and service to ACU he retired in 1994.
