Dwain Hart

After serving in the U.S. Army, Dr. Dwain M. Hart came to ACU in 1955 where he began as an instructor and served as the ACU men's tennis coach for 16 seasons from 1956-1971.  He racked up a record of 168-101-5, including a best record of 17-3 in 1966.

From 1962-1982, Hart was the head of the department of health, physical pducation and recreation and served as women's athletic director from 1971-1979.

In 1982 he was appointed dean of the College of Professional Studies.  Also in 1982, he chaired a special committee to study and recommend organizational structure and operating procedures for the Honors and General Studies programs.  He also served a one-year appointment as dean of the Graduate School.

Hart was named vice president of academic affairs in 1991 and provost in 1995.  During two years of his tenure as ACU's chief academic officer, he had the added responsibilities of the dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.

As an active member of the Abilene community, Hart served on the Board of Directors for Christian Homes of Abilene, Abilene Boys Club and Abilene Parks and Recreation.  He acted as site coordinator for Texas Special Olympics and has been inducted into the ACU Sports Hall of Fame.

Hart and his wife Bettie have three children: Kem Hatch ('80), Kent ('82) and Kerri ('86).
