Dr. C.L. Kay came to ACU in 1982 as vice chancellor until his death in June of 1991. While at ACU, Kay assisted in securing Mabee Foundation grants for the construction of the Mabee Business Building, Biblical Studies Building, renovations to the Foster Science Building and an addition to the library completed in 1996 which bears his name and houses the Walter H. Adams Center for Teaching Excellence.
Kay secured more than $8.5 million in grants from the Mabee Foundation from1982-1991, including the foundation’s largest-ever grant of $3 million, and also helped secure numerous other grants for ACU programs and for the Abilene Intercollegiate School of Nursing.
Dr. John C. Stevens, ACU chancellor emeritus, said of Kay, "Casey Kay gave himself wholeheartedly to causes in which he believed. He was a tireless worker and encourager of all who worked with him. His contributions to the building of Abilene Christian University and to serving the students have been tremendous."
Prior to his position at ACU, Kay was an administrator for Lubbock Christian Univeristy for more than 20 years. He began at LCU as a professor of political science, was dean of students, dean of student life, vice president for public affairs, assistant president and executive director for the Center for Business and Economic Education which he founded. From 1968-74 Kay served on the board of directors for the Defense Orientation Conference Association from 1968-74.
Kay and his wife, Ruth Marie Rnadall, had four daughters: Elisa, Da'Lynn Clayton, Denise Alkire ('84) and Ranise Park.
