Dr. Abraham Malherbe, a native of Pretoria, Republic of South Africa received a B.A. in Greek from Abilene Christian in 1954. He received the B.S.T. from the Harvard Divinity School in 1954 and a Ph.D. in Theology from Harvard University in 1963. Prior to his employment at ACU, Malherbe served several years as minister of the Lexington, Mass. Church of Christ.
Malherbe joined the faculty at Abilene Christian in September of 1963 as an associate professor of Bible, specializing in New Testament and the Greek philosophical and religious background to early Christianity. He was presented the Blue Key honor society's Faculty Award by the A Club in 1966 and named as the Trustee’s Outstanding Teacher of the Year in1967.
While at ACU, Malherbe and Dr. Everett Ferguson were chosen to prepare a translation of "The Life of Moses" by Gregory of Nyssa, a work not previously translated from Greek for publication in the "Ancient Christian Writers" series. He was also a member of the Alpha Chi honor organization and was one of the original co-publishers of the "Restoration Quarterly."
Malherbe resigned from ACU in 1969 and went on to teach at Dartmouth College and Yale University and has been a featured speaker at several Bible Lectureships.
He and his wife, Phyllis, have three children.
