In August 1927 and January 1928 Abilene Christian purchased a section of land (about one square mile) plus 40 acres for $119,600 .
This land was bounded by Albany Highway (now Ambler Avenue) on the north, what would become Griffith Road on the east, what would be come East North 10th Street on the south, and Cedar Creek on the west.
The plan was to reserve enough space for the new campus, subdivide a portion of the land into residential and commercial lots and still have land available for future projects.

This view north from the roof of Zellner Hall in 1938 shows what this land would have looked like before the campus and subdivision were constructed. The Albany Highway (now Ambler Avenue) runs across the photograph and Avenue F runs vertically on the right-hand side. Photo courtesy of the Prickly Pear.
